The World War I Aisne-Marne American Cemetery and Memorial lies south of the village of Belleau (Aisne), France six and one-half miles northwest of Chateau-Thierry. It is the resting place for two thousand two hundred and ninety American servicemen who gave their lives to defend France. While not as impressive as Verdun, it is still a humbling place.
