Another way to skin a cat: The Renault 12 Fe

This Renault engine displaced 22.080 litres among its 12 cylinders and created all of 300 horsepower at 1500 rpm. Bore 125mm stroke 150mm. 12 cylinders in a 50 degree V (with the resulting primary imbalance).

Whereas the previous Peugot motor had fully enclosed valve gear, here the valvesprings ride out in the open. Maybe the engineers thought they would cool better this way. The two camshafts (one for each bank of 6 cylinders) are revolved by towershafts at the far end of the motor. THere are single intake and exhaust valves per cylinder.
