Unlike blimps, which are not rigid, dirigibles have a skeleton to give them shape and support the skin. This makes them more practical than a blimp, but they require favorable weather and a certain amount of luck to employ, because ones useful for warlike activities were close to 1000 feet long and could barely make 100 mph, making them inviting targets for ground artillery as well as enemy aircraft.
