An Otto Lilienthal style glider

Photograph

Mr. Lillienthal was a pioneer in heavier than air flight in the 1890s, able to glide for hundreds of feet. Control was an issue and one afternoon, he lost pitch control (maintained by swinging his body back and forth rather than by moveable control surfaces, which is what made the Wrights a success) and fell hard from 100 feet up. He died days later from his injuries.
