The brick and local riverstone construction of the Arena |
The Arena (20,000 seats, the 4th largest Roman Arena in the world, the Colloseum in Rome being the biggest) was disused after the fall of Rome and like many castles, temples and arenas, became a quarry for stone for local builders. In the Rennaissance, everything old was new again, so the Arena was rebuilt. However, the marble outer wall was never rebuilt.
