This sign details the famous "Z" Signal of Admiral Togo

photo35.jpg

A prearranged signal, "Z" meant to deploy for combat at the Battle of Tsushima on May 27–28, 1905. Admiral Heihachiro Togo destroyed two-thirds of the Russian fleet under Admiral Zinovy Rozhestvensky. This was the last major battle in the 1904-1905 war, and was a major victory for Japan, which saw itself as taking on the West and winning. The West did not see it that way, and in the treaties that followed, stripped Japan of most of the territory it gained from Russia.
