Vianden Castle, home of Lėtzebuerg (Luxembourg) nobility |
This castle was built originally in the 12th and 13th centuries, and expanded greatly by the 16th century. in the late 1700s, it was vacant and had been rocked by an earthquake. Like many abandoned castles, its fate was to be a quarry for building material for the local town. In the romantic 19th century, again like many castles, Vianden was revitalized and rebuilt. It is now again the ceremonial home of the Grand Duke of Luxembourg.
