A clean shot through the M4A2 Sherman

This particular Sherman is built on a welded hull, with the A2 turret and 75mm short barrel cannon and uses the early bogie type suspension. A poor design, the Sherman was outclassed by everything it ran up against in combat. Superior logistics and the fact that we made 33,000 of them (compared to <5,000 Tigers) that allowed us to prevail. This tank has not been updated with the additional applique armor often fitted in Britain before the tanks were shipped overseas. This armor was added over the fuel tanks and ammo storage areas on the vertical sides of the tank to try and reinforce a pitiful design. The armor should be sloped to increase its apparent thickness and help deflect rounds. Instead here you can clearly see where a German 88mm shell went right through the side without stopping.
