The papal seal |
The papal seal always has 2 keys on it, but the central device changes from time to time. When the pope was leader of the Holy Roman Emperor, they adopted the symbolic "bee" symbol used by the Ceasar family of Rome. Napoleon later used this symbol when he declared himself Emperor, claiming that he was descended from the line of Ceasars as well.
