This is an actual body of a notable, interred in the Vatican (one of over 500 interred within its walls) with a silver deathmask. There are 4 such corpses on display. Plaster is molded over the face of the body first, then it is cast in wax, silver or gold. That mask is placed over the corpses face, the body is enbalmed, and then it is dressed in its fines regalia, and placed in these tombs. Strange.
